New versions 2.3 released

New versions 2.3 have been released which correct a problem that is found on some devices (mostly Nokia). The release notes are attached below.

This version includes an important correction. It has been observed that certain devices (mostly Nokia) do not send the message properly. As a result, the message is delivered to the recipient device's inbox instead of the application's inbox. This problem has been now fixed.

New versions 2.2 released

New versions 2.2 of all SMSCrypt variants have now been released. They include an important fix to a problem for countries with 3 or more digits country code and/or a national prefix code. The problem was a simple contact-message association and gave the impression that the program did not work at all in these countries.

Part of the release notes is attached below.

The application's database schema has been changed. This practically means that you cannot upgrade v.2.1 to v.2.2 and retain your data. You will have to delete any earlier version from your device and then install v.2.2.
  • Changes
In all SMSCrypt variants a contact can only have a single phone number. It has been decided that there is no practical use for someone to use more than one number with SMSCrypt. Therefore, the database schema has been changed.

  • Corrections
There was a contact-message association problem in countries with a 3 or more digits country code and/or extra digits for a national prefix code. In such countries, a received message would appear with a warning icon and the sender's phone number even if the contact had been set correctly on the recipient's side. Therefore, the message could not be decrypted and remained unreadable. The normal functionality is to show the received message with a check icon and the contact's name whose phone number has been found in the message.

SMSCrypt to be withdrawn & new versions soon

SMSCrypt, the original application which everything started from will be soon withdrawn. The only accessible versions will be Lite and Pro.

As we said recently, all SMSCrypt variants proved not to be operable in several countries with a 3 or more digits international code and/or a national prefix code. The symptom was that there could be no automatic association between a received message and a contact and therefore the message was always unreadable. The new versions which fix this issue will soon be available.

Countries with a 3 or 4 digit country code

Users from countries with a 3 or 4 digit country code, might experience the following problem.

When they receive a message it is not automatically associated with a contact and therefore the message is depicted with a warning sign and a telephone number. To temporarily overcome the problem, you have to replace the contact's number with the one that appears in the inbox.

The fix for this problem will be available within this week.

New versions 2.1. No more IMEIs.

Great news people. With the new versions 2.1, you are no longer needed to provide your IMEI number in order to buy. This is particularly good for people who didn't feel comfortable with giving away any information about the devices they were using.

A part of the release notes follows.
The application's database schema has changed. This practically means that you cannot upgrade v.2.0 to v.2.1 and retain your data. You will have to delete any earlier version from your device and then install v.2.1.

New releases available

Versions 2 of all SMSCrypt variants are now available! Note that with the new demo versions, you will be able to read half of each received message. Also note that version 2 is not backwards compatible with previous versions due to major changes to the encryption algorithm and the data transmission method. This means that you have to make sure that you and your contacts all use version 2 of any of the three variants. In other words, communication between a version 2 and a version 1.1 or previous copies is not possible.

Details follow:
  • Changes
  1. The demo version allows you to read half of each received message so that you can safely evaluate the application.
  2. The encryption algorithm has changed.
  3. The data transmission method has changed.
  4. Improvement on the date format associated with messages.
  • Corrections
In some rare cases (certain combinations of plain text and password), due to some character encoding issues, the transmitted data was corrupted. Therefore, the receiver could not correctly decrypt the message. This problem was indeed rare since it remained undetected for many test case scenarios.
